Susan walks 60!
Hello! Thank you for visiting my pledge page. Here you will find information on how to sponsor me for the Avon Breast Cancer 3-day walk coming up in a few short months. On August 3-5, 2001 I'm going to do something amazing. I'm going to walk 60 miles with thousands of other people to fight breast cancer. We'll walk from Fort Collins to Boulder Colorado. Yes, you read that right! 60 miles over 3 days. But I can't do this without your help! I have been asked why I would do something so obviously “over the top” – especially when I do not have anyone in my immediate family that has been affected by breast cancer. I have thought long and hard about the answer to that question, because frankly, I agree! This is way over the top! There are many reasons why I am attempting such a challenge. One reason is because I am involved in women's ministry and women's issues. Also I believe strongly in cultivating good health through well balanced nutrition, exercise, education, and preventative health care. My life has been changed and my health greatly improved by exercise, so this is a physical challenge for me. I have also been very touched by the stories that I have read and heard from women who have valiantly dealt with the devastating blow of hearing those dreaded words, “You have breast cancer.” I pray that one day, my daughter will think that breast cancer is as rare as smallpox. But today, the sad fact is, most people have been touched by breast cancer in some way. This incredible event is for the breast cancer victims, the survivors, and all women and men whose lives have been or will be touched by breast cancer. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death for all women, and the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55. Both its cause and the means for its cure remain undiscovered. Currently, one million women in the United States have the disease, but don’t know it. And they probably won’t know about their potentially fatal illness for another five to eight years. That’s why I’m walking 60 miles. To do something big – something that would challenge me as much as breast cancer challenges millions of women in the U.S. I hope that you’ll be a partner with me in this effort. I have committed to raise $1,900.00 by July 6th. I cannot possibly reach this goal without your help. The money I raise will go towards breast cancer prevention, screening, treatment, and support programs. I believe that access to mammograms should never be restricted to women because of their financial status. No woman should be without a support system if she has to fight the toughest fight of her life. All women need to have access to breast cancer prevention information. Because of the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day, all women will benefit from the thousands of people taking on this incredible challenge to raise money for a cause so important. Your pledges are fully tax-deductible, and every dollar gets me closer to my goal. As you decide on an amount to pledge, please keep in mind how far I’m walking – and how hard I am training between now and August. I thank you in advance for your support. I am a little nervous, a lot excited, and truly honored to be part of this event! How do I donate? This can be done in a number of different ways: 1. CLICK HERE to contact me via e-mail. Include your mailing address in the e-mail, and I will send you an official pledge form with my walker number on it and a stamped envelope. You fill out the pledge form and mail it along with your check directly to the Avon Breast Cancer 3day bank. 2. If you prefer I can send you an electronic version of the pledge form in Adobe Acrobat format. Then you can print it out and mail it in with your check. Using the pledge form allows you to make payments by installments, rather than in one lump sum. Again, contact me via e-mail with a request for a pledge form. 3. If you want to make a pledge online, you can visit the official Avon 3-day website by CLICKING HERE Once on their page, click on “make an online donation”. From there you will fill out a short form...IMPORTANT! You need to have my walker number “1569” and select the Colorado walk from the drop down list. You need my walker number to make sure that your donation is credited to my pledge account. From that page, the website walks you through the donation process. Is my donation tax deductible? Yes! The Avon Fund is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and your donation is fully tax deductible. Do you handle any of the money personally? No. The money is sent directly to the bank that handles the funds for the Avon Breast Cancer 3day walk. Whether I mail you a pledge form, or send you one electronically, you will be able to mail your pledge directly to the bank that is handling the Avon Breast Cancer 3day fund. Do I have to pay in one lump sum? I could give more if it was spread out over time. You do not have to pay one lump sum. You can pay via credit card and make installment payments. This is an awesome way to give the larger amount that your heart wants to give, but without shocking your bank account! Again, I thank you for your support! |
